Coney Island Beach is the archetypal seaside resort, brash and popular, with amusement arcades and fairground rides. It has more than 5km of beach.
Among the amusements are the Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone rollercoaster and the New York Aquarium.
Once fashionable, it first attracted attention in the 1840s. In recent years, however, it has declined, although the standard of its traditional ethnic snacks remains high.
