Manhattan - Downtown

This area was one of the first settlements of the Dutch people first, and the English later, when New York wasn’t yet divided in boroughs.

The history of New York Downtown has always been bound to the economic development of the whole city.

Here started the first maritime trades, and here lies the economic and financial heart of New York.

Names like Wall Street or Federal Reserve Bank remind of the American economic empire.

The  World Trade Centre was also situated in Manhattan Downtown, with the Twin Towers which were dramatically torn down during the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
The surviving area, today a giant construction site, was named Ground Zero.
